AFL 2020 Premiership Favourites
This current Richmond side are one of the teams of the 2010’s to date, with only an upset win by the Magpies in the 2018 Preliminary Final potentially denying them three AFL flags on the trot. With star defender Alex Rance back from injury in 2020, the Tigers appear to even stronger than in 2019.
West Coast Eagles
West Coast were unlucky not to able to defend their title in 2019, but it was of their own design after losing finals home ground advantage last week of the home-and-away season. If the Eagles are to win the title in 2020, getting a full season out of a fit star ruckman Nic Naitanui will go way to achieving the goal.
The Magpies have the players to win the AFL flag in 2020, but do they have the heart? Nathan Buckley’s men still hurt from their 2018 Grand Final loss and the psychological scars are still raw. If the finals draw falls their way in 2020, it could be different. The Eagles and the Tigers will be Collingwood’s major stumbling blocks.
Greater Western Sydney Giants
Can Leon Cameron lift his band of Giants after they were massacred by the Tigers in their first ever AFL Grand Final? Armed with the best offensive threat in the AFL, Jeremy Cameron’s form and fitness will go a long way to deciding if they Giants can learn from their first Grand Final experience.
The shock team of 2019 will no longer be a surprise in 2020. They’ll have a good year, but again, a lot will depend on securing home finals at the Gabba.
After looking like potential Premiers in the first half of 2019, the Cats faded miserably in the second half of the season and were a finals flop. However, any side featuring players like Gary Ablett, Tom Hawkins and the dangerous Patrick Dangerfield must be given a chance to win the flag in 2020.
By far, the best outsider bet for the AFL flag in 2020. If the Bulldogs, led by the league’s best player in Marcus Bontempelli can secure a Top 4 spot in 2020, watch out for the Dogs!

The experience, power and depth of the Richmond player list is unmatched in the AFL at the moment. From a great defence led by Alex Rance and Bachar Houli, Dusty Martin, Dion Prestia and Trent Cotchin in midfield, through to the attack led by Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt, the Tigers will be a tough proposition to beat in 2020. If the Tigers stay injury-free, look for a third AFL Premiership in 4 seasons.
