Best fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 10

Had any of you ever heard of Trey Edmunds? No? Same. But James Conner’s injury surprisingly made him relevant for the Steelers on Sunday. Injuries had other under-the-radar players suddenly catching fantasy owners’ eyes. In Minnesota, it seems like Kyle Rudolph is a usable fantasy tight end when Adam Thielen is off the field, which happened quickly after Thielen (hamstring) exited early for the second time in the past three games. Zach Pascal also vaulted back into fantasy relevance with T.Y. Hilton (calf) out. As we head into Week 10, Edmunds, Rudolph, and Pascal are three seemingly unexciting names that actually have some value as waiver wire pickups.

We also have two Dolphins pass-catchers for you to consider. I mean, when you win your first game of the season and douse your head coach in Gatorade, we’ve got to recommend everyone you have, right? DeVante Parker continues to score for Miami, and after Preston Williams (knee) was lost for the year, he might see even more targets. He’s joined by tight end Mike Gesicki, who had the best game of his career Sunday.

There are a lot of potential free agents on the list this week, and the reasoning is pretty simple: There are six teams on bye next week, and there are plenty of injuries that might need replacing, too.

Pascal isn’t the only Colts receiver worth paying attention. Parris Campbell and Chester Rogers had similar workloads, and next week they face the Dolphins. ( Update: Campbell will miss time because of a hand facture.) Maybe you’re more of a Titans fan and want WR A.J. Brown or TE Jonnu Smith next week against the Chiefs. If slot receivers are more your speed, you could snag Cole Beasley (@ Browns) or Russell Gage (@ Saints). Any fantasy owners dealing with the Thielen and Hilton injuries — or all those byes — at least have options.

Running back is a bit of a different story this week, though. It looks like we might be seeing the Ronald Jones takeover, but besides that, Edmunds is the second-best Week 10 option. If you’re looking forward two weeks, it’s time to pick up Derrius Guice, who’s eligible to return in Week 11. And maybe you want to take a shot on Jay Ajayi, who should be signed soon. ( Update: Kalen Ballage and Bilal Powell are worth looking at, too, after news of Mark Walton’s suspension and Le’Veon Bell’s possible knee injury.)

The defense streams section has a lot of options — not necessarily good options, but options nonethless. Almost all of them are bad-to-mediocre defensive groups that happen to have good matchups. If you’re playing the streaming game, though, you’re used to that to some extent.

Note: This list will be updated following the primetime games and any updated injury news.
