NRL 2020 Premiership Favourites

Sydney Roosters

Double defending NRL Premiers, the Sydney Roosters appear to almost destined to back up and when 3 in a row. Despite losing talisman half-back Cooper Cronk to retirement in 2020, the Roosters don’t lose too much with Luke Keary’s quality. If the Roosters negotiate the Origin period well and still in the Top 4, a repeat could be on the cards.

Melbourne Storm

Always a force in the regular season, the Melbourne may need to step it up to win the title in 2020. It’s the beginning of a transition period for Melbourne as the ageless Cameron Smith may potentially hang up the boots at the end of the year. Needless to say, Craig Bellamy will have the Storm as ready as ever.

Canberra Raiders

The heartache of losing the 2019 NRL Grand Final will undoubtedly psychologically fire the Raiders to perform well again in 2020. Given the English and Kiwi contingents in their squad, Ricky Stuart’s men will suffer less than most during the Origin period, a critical part of any NRL Premiership drive.

South Sydney Rabbitohs

Any team coached by the master coach Wayne Bennett remains a threat in any NRL competition. Adding Latrell Mitchell to the South Sydney players ranks has seen their odds slash in recent weeks. If Souths can overcome losing so many players to State of Origin and the retirement of Sam Burgess to injury, the Bunnies will be a Premiership threat.

Parramatta Eels

The Eels are a quality young outfit and well-coached by Brad Arthur. Having a fanatical home crowd support that are encouraged to attend by the state-of-the-art new stadium in Western Sydney may assist in a Top 4 finish, and from there, anything is possible.

Manly Sea Eagles

The best outsiders for the NRL Premiership. Des Hasler’s shock team of 2019 will no longer be a surprise in 2020. They’ll have a good year, but again, a lot will depend on getting through the Origin period unscathed, and the fitness and form of the incredible Trbojevic brothers.

North Queensland Cowboys

The recruitment of NFL wannabee Valentine Holmes has seen the Cowboys plunge dramatically in NRL Premiership betting recently. Throw in a mighty new home stadium building the Townsville team’s already enormous home support, and two other bona fide superstars in Jason Taumalolo and Michael Morgan and the Cowboys can beat any other NRL team on their day.

Cronulla Sharks

Despite the retirement of influential club leader, Paul Gallen, the Sharks have plenty of quality in their playing list to give the title a shake in 2020, including the excellent recruitment of young Jesse Ramien from the Knights.

Our predictions

The experience, power and depth of the Sydney Roosters player list is unmatched in the NRL at the moment. The only thing going against them will be getting through the State of Origin period in good shape and without too many injuries. Manly loom to be the big improvers and could be worth a punt at the great odds on offer. However, the serious bettors are looking for the best odds they can on the Roosters and that’s here and now.
