IIHF Hockey Odds – Proline vs Sportsbooks

Unfortunately, Canadians are unable to bet on a number of events using Proline odds today, including the World Junior Hockey Championships. Even were Proline to be available for the tournament, online sportsbooks offer not only significantly more attractive odds (generally in the region of 20-30% better) and the ability to bet on individual games (straight bets are not offered with Proline), but also numerous times the number of prop and game betting options that are available with Proline hockey odds.

Online sportsbooks are also able to offer Canadians teaser bets and line adjustments, not to mention a number of props on the score, alternative spread, margin of victory, correct score, Over / Under player performances and even the ability to bet live.

When all is said and done, there really is no comparison between the betting options and lines offered with Proline and online sportsbooks.

IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship 2020 Format

The 10 teams are divided into two, five-team groups, with all teams facing each other in a single round-robin series.

The top four teams from each group advance to the Play-off Round, with the 5th placed team in each group going to the Relegation Round.

The Quarterfinal games will be drawn as follows: 1A vs 4B, 1B vs 4A, 2A vs 3B and 2B vs 3A.

The semi-final draw will be based on the best-ranked teams using the following criteria:

    1. Placement in the group
    2. Points in the group round
    3. Goal difference in the group round
    4. Goals scored in the group round
    5. Seeding coming into the tournament

The Semi-Final winners will meet in the Gold Medal Game, while the losers will play in the Bronze Medal Game.

The teams finishing last in the two groups will play a best-of-three Relegation Round series (the third game only to be played if needed). The winner will be back at the 2021 IIHF WJC, while the loser is relegated to Division I Group A.

    World Junior Hockey schedule

The 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship is split into two groups with five teams in each. The teams play each other once in a round-robin format in each group, with the top four teams advancing to the quarter-finals and the bottom team in each group facing off against each other in a three-game playoff. All times quoted are local Pacific Standard Time.

IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship 2020 Predictions

The three pre-tournament favourites – Canada, USA and Russia – have all been drawn together in Group B. Whilst there’s little doubt that all three will secure their place in the Play-off Round, finishing places in the group stage could determine how tough a draw they have thereafter.

The USA come into the tournament looking for a fifth consecutive medal, having finished first in 2017, second in 2019 and third in 2016 and 2018. They have a decent amount of experience, with six players who featured a year ago on the roster. At +300 (4.00) with Sports Interaction , they are our tips to claim the Gold Medal on this occasion.

The IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship is hugely popular in Canada, with fans always keen to see the progress of the next generation of star players for the national team.

Despite failing to claim a medal on home-ice for the first time ever in the tournament a year ago, Canada is the most successful team in the history of the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

Last season was a disappointment for the Canadians, who were eliminated at the quarter-final stage by eventual champions, Finland (they had claimed five gold medals, five silvers and one bronze in the 11 previous tournaments held in Canada).

Canada has taken part in every World Junior Championship to date and is the most successful country in its history with a total of 17 gold medals.

They have twice won the title five times in a row – first from 1993 to 1997 and then again from 2005 to 2009

Coach Tim Hunter’s roster has plenty of quality on it, with centre Kirby Dach being the third overall pick in last year’s NHL draft. He currently plays for the Chicago Blackhawks. There’s also Alexis Lafreniere, who is the projected No. 1 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
