College GameDay reveals Week 13 predictions

College GameDay joins several other pre-game shows live from Columbus, Ohio on Saturday for unbeaten Ohio State’s toughest game of the year, a home battle with eight-ranked Penn State.

Both of these teams are hoping to end the Big Ten’s two-year drought in the final four, but for the Nittany Lions, a loss ends those hopes. The Buckeyes are a 19.5-point favorite and haven’t been tested yet this fall as the national leader in total offense and total defense.

“Ohio State will get after the quarterback, not just with Chase Young but the entire defensive line,” Herbstreit said. “But what I’ve been very impressed with Penn State is how they move around (KJ Hamler). He’s by far their best playmaker. But to me, Sean Clifford has to run the football today and they also have to go up-tempo to try and slow the Ohio State defense.

“If not, if he’s in 3rd-and-7 or 3rd-and-6, that’s going to be disaster for Penn State.”

Penn State-Ohio State is the only Top 10 showdown of Week 13, but there are several others with potential College Football Playoff impact depending on the result.

Here’s what Herbstreit, Corso and the rest of the gang said this week ahead of Saturday’s best games:

Purdue at Wisconsin

“Jonathan Taylor has been sensational,” Rece Davis said.

“I think Wisconsin is going to be ok, they’re probably going to beat Minnesota next week and I think he’ll have a big game today,” Desmond Howard said.

“It’s pretty insane what Taylor has been able to do,” David Pollack said.

“He’s facing alot of eight and nine-man fronts,” Kirk Herbstreit said. “Back to back 200-yard games and he’ll get another one today.”

“When you have a coach that’s in the wind like this, USC is going to have to make a decision,” Pollack said. “I thin they’re going to make a decision today.”

“He’s coaching for his job today, unfortunately,” Howard said. “He doesn’t have the support in the board room to help him out. He’s fighting for his job.”

“With the LA pressure and they want to win big, I think the signs seem to show this is his last game,” Corso said.

“They’ve been trying to get rid of him (for years),” Herbstreit said. “I’m not making excuses for the guy, but there’s injuries at quarterback and all over this defense. This team has kept fighting for him. But the optics? He’s got to win here.”

Texas at Baylor

“The timing of this game for Baylor is significant,” Herbstreit said. “Baylor quarterback Charlie Brewer’s grandfather went to Texas. His father went to Texas. And they didn’t recruit him. I asked him last game about the one game he’s most excited for and he just kind of smirked. I think Brewer goes off.”

“Texas will show me they’re back when they start beating people they should beat consistently,” Pollack said.

“No one is talking about Texas being back except Texas Longhorns fans,” Howard said. “I don’t know if Baylor is mentally strong enough to come back. Texas knows this is still a huge opportunity for the Longhorns.”

“Texas outscores Baylor in an upset,” Lee Corso said.

Michigan at Indiana

“I don’t think Michigan will have trouble today,” Pollack said. “Michigan’s defense will show out today and play really, really well. Since that Wisconsin loss, they’ve been lights out defensively.”

This game has the potential to be a four-quarter game,” Howard said. “Michigan has to turn the Hoosiers into a one-dimensional offense and that’s when Don Brown’s defense takes over. I see Michigan winning it. I think Michigan controls the line of scrimmage.”

“Indiana leads the Big Ten in not allowing sacks,” Herbstreit said. “But his Michigan team deserves credit for where they were in the year and they’re going to win this game, but they’re going to have to earn it.”

Boston College at Notre Dame

“Don’t worry about . Notre Dame will win this one, win the next one and play in the Orange Bowl in Miami,” Corso said.

“They are going to finish 10-2 and end up going to the Orange Bowl,” Herbstreit said.

“Notre Dame wins comfortably,” Howard said. “AJ Dillon will score twice, but that’s it for BC.”

TCU at Oklahoma

“How about the emotions last week in Waco? And now Oklahoma gets CeeDee Lamb back,” Herbstreit said. “This TCU offense is a little bit more balanced than (we’re used to seeing). This to me is about the emotions for Oklahoma after last week. But keep an eye on this one. (Won’t be) easy for OU.”

Oregon at Arizona State

“Very tricky game for the Oregon Ducks,” Howard said. “But I think they get it done.”

Texas A&M at Georgia

“Kellen Mond and Jimbo Fisher quietly have been getting better and better . with the rain, at the very least, that’s going to be a close game,” Herbstreit said. “When’s the last time we really talked about A&M? They’re the best in the SEC at possessing the ball. Georgia may win this one, but this is going to be a battle.”

“If you’re already worried about this offense, the weather is not going to help,” Pollack said. “Kirby is going to take the conservative approach. I like Georgia.”

“Jimbo Fisher is going to make Kirby Smart coach for four quarters,” Howard said. “This is going to be a close game. I think this game is right in the Aggies wheelhouse. The Aggies will lose, but it’ll be a close one with the Bulldogs.”

Penn State at Ohio State

“Ohio State and Penn State have played nine times with both teams in the Top 10 and the Buckeyes have won six of those games,” Corso said. “Give me Brutus!”

“This is a big opportunity for Ryan Day and these kinds of games become your team,” Herbstreit said. “When you beat Penn State, when you beat a Michigan, that’s when it officially becomes Ryan Day’s team. I like Ohio State big.”

“Ryan Day has done a fantastic job and no matter who the opponent is, they’ve always play Ohio State football,” Howard said. “I have Ohio State covering today.”

“Ohio State is the most complete team in the country,” Pollack said. “I don’t see how Penn State keeps it close, I really don’t.”
