With the coronavirus pandemic causing some changes to the NFL offseason, including no OTA practices until further notice, the schedule release has been delayed as well. But, as of now, the NFL plans to proceed on schedule for the start of the season on September 10 according to NFL head of public relations Brian McCarthy.

Along with the revealing of the season opener was the date of the Super Bowl which is set to take place on February 7, 2021.

As for the rest of the schedule, McCarthy said it “should be released by May 9” which is a little over a week away.

Keep in mind, the NFL can plan for the season to move ahead on schedule now, but that doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing. When and how the country is able to return to regular activity including large gatherings could affect if the season is delayed or shortened.

Should it be delayed, the thinking is that a full season is still possible should things get started by mid-October. And keep in mind that training camp would have to precede any games played.
