Today’s MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings, FanDuel advice for Monday, May 6
SP: Max Scherzer, Nationals @ Brewers. Scherzer is a tad cheaper than both Jacob deGrom and Gerrit Cole and leads all of today’s probable starters in K-BB percent thanks to an incredibly low 3.7-percent walk rate. Scherzer has a good matchup against Milwaukee, who has been slightly below average against righthanded pitching with the fifth highest strikeout rate. Like deGrom, Scherzer’s team is only a slight favorite, and the game is in hitter-friendly Milwaukee, so Scherzer is not without risk.
C: Christian Vazquez, Red Sox @ Orioles. Boston has the highest implied run total of the main slate per Vegas against Baltimore with lefthander John Means on the mound. Vasquez has been slightly above average with the platoon advantage dating back to last season, and he’s hitting in the middle third of the Boston order with most catchers ending up in the bottom third. He’s a better value on FD than he is on DK.
1B: Ji-Man Choi, Rays vs. Diamondbacks. The Rays will face righthander Merrill Kelly, who owns a respectable 3.60 ERA, but his FIP is just a shade under 5.00. Kelly has below average strikeout and walk rates, and a Rays team that ranks sixth in wRC+ vs. RHP can deliver him some regression. Choi has a 140 wRC+ in his last 281 PA vs. RHP and will hit third tonight.
2B: Jonathan Villar, Astros vs. Royals. Villar will lead off for the O’s tonight against Josh Smith who hasn’t had a major league start since 2016 and is 31. Villar has hits in his past four games.
SS: Freddy Galvis, Blue Jays vs. Twins. Galvis is one of those Toronto righties who can take advantage of the matchup with Perez. Galvis has been above average against lefties since last season and will hit second for the Jays tonight.
3B: Marwin Gonzalez, Twins @ Blue Jays. Gonzalez has one of the three best value ratings of the main slate per our projections on both sites. Gonzalez qualifies at 1B and OF on DK and at 3B on FD. Gonzalez, a switch-hitter, has been a bit better against righties the last couple of seasons and will hit from the left side tonight against Marcus Stroman.
OF: Adam Eaton, Nationals @ Brewers. Perhaps the best matchup for lefthanded hitters tonight is Jhoulys Chacin. The righthander has a paltry 2.8 percent K-BB percent vs. LHP dating back to last season. Eaton has a 125 wRC+ vs. RHP in that same time frame.
