2020 College Football Predictions
2020 College Football Contenders to Watch
As the college football season approaches, we take a look at 22 schools for the 2020 campaign. Several angles tackled include upcoming schedules, 2019 review, betting odds for conference and national championship titles, and Heisman odds as well as season predictions.
In the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Clemson Tigers are expected to not only capture the conference championship once again, but also be in the running for a third straight College Football Playoff championship game appearance. The Pittsburgh Panthers are coming off an eight-win season, capped off by a bowl victory.
The Big 10 Conference is normally one of the most competitive leagues in all of college football. The Ohio State Buckeyes appeared in the College Football Playoff last season and are expected to win the Big 10 title again in 2020. Ohio State’s rival, the Michigan Wolverines, closed last season on a sour note but are predicted to be in the mix for the league title along with the Penn State Nittany Lions. Both the Indiana Hoosiers and Purdue Boilermakers will be looking for bowl appearances in 2020.
The Oklahoma Sooners have ruled the Big 12 conference the last few seasons by winning three consecutive league championship games. The Sooners are the odds-on favorite to make it four straight Big 12 titles and will look to do so with a new quarterback for the fourth consecutive season. The Texas Longhorns closed 2019 with a pair of blowout wins and are right behind Oklahoma in the running for the top spot in the Big 12. The West Virginia Mountaineers are expected to finish in the middle of the league after a 5-7 campaign in 2019.
The Pac-12 conference has seen four different champions in the last five seasons. The USC Trojans are coming off a tough 8-5 season, which included three losses by double-digits. USC and Oregon are the two co-favorites to win the Pac-12 title in 2020, even though the win total for the Trojans this season sits at 8. The Colorado Buffaloes are the biggest long shots to take home the conference championship at 125/1.
Year in and year out in college football, all eyes are on the Southeastern Conference or SEC. The LSU Tigers took home the 2019 National Championship, but have many key players to replace on this season’s roster. The case is the same for the Alabama Crimson Tide, who missed the College Football Playoff for the first time since it was instituted in 2014. Several other strong schools to keep an eye on in the league include the Auburn Tigers, the Florida Gators, the Tennessee Volunteers, and the Texas A&M Aggies.
One of the most historic programs in the country continues to be the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who closed last season with six consecutive wins. The Temple Owls took a step back following a 5-1 start to finish at 8-5, while the Air Force Falcons went on an eight-game winning streak to finish 2019. The Colorado State Rams didn’t have much luck by winning only four games.
