Week 2 NFL DFS Strategy: Picks, advice, values for DraftKings, FanDuel
Finding value picks each week is crucial to success in NFL DFS, and Week 2 sees pricing get much tighter on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Thankfully, there is still some solid daily fantasy football values across the board that will help you pay up for high-priced guys, such as Todd Gurley, Antonio Brown, and DeAndre Hopkins.
I typically take a cash game approach to finding value plays, and many times, you don’t need to overthink rostering value plays in tournaments as long as you look to diversify your lineup in other areas. Be sure to check out the RotoQL Trending Players Tool to quickly identify who the top value plays are each week.
Before we get into the Week 2 picks, remember that an article like this should only be part of your DFS research. The best daily fantasy players look at more than one source before putting together their lineups. My favorite place to start is RotoQL’s NFL lineup optimizer, which, as always, played a big role in the picks below. RotoQL’s industry-leading fantasy football packages are loaded with stats and user-friendly DFS tools. You’ll be hard-pressed to find anything better.

NFL DFS Picks Week 2: Quarterback values
QB Case Keenum, Broncos vs. Raiders (DK: $5,800, FD: $6,700)
The quarterback position is loaded with excellent options up top, but for cash games we are likely going to want to spend down at the position to help us jam in one of each of the stud running backs and wide receivers that are in great spots this week. Last week, Keenum looked solid in his first start with the Broncos and draws another great matchup at home against the Raiders, who saw their defense get picked apart last week by the Rams. Keenum was excellent at home last season, posting a plus/minus of plus-2.9 points, and is an exceptionally good value on FanDuel at his $6,700 price point.
Other Quarterback Values: Nick Foles, Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick
Daily Fantasy Football Week 2 Advice: Running back values
RB James Connor, Steelers vs. Chiefs (DK: $6,700, FD: $7,000)
Last week, Conner was the ‘must have’ value play of the week and you should look to go right back to the well with Conner, who is still an excellent value across the industry despite a large price bump. Conner dispelled any concerns about his possible workload, as he racked up a massive 36 touches, a number that easily led all running backs in Week 1. The matchup this week is also as good as it gets for Conner and the rest of the Steelers offense, as they return home to face a Chiefs defense that just gave up over 200 all-purpose yards to the Chargers RBs last week. The Steelers have the second-highest implied team total on the slate at 27.5 points which just furthers the case for Conner to be a borderline must-play in all formats.
Other Running Back Values: Rex Burkhead, Royce Freeman, James White, LeSean McCoy (GPP)
Week 2 Daily Fantasy Football Picks, Values: Wide receiver
WR Devin Funchess, Panthers @ Falcons (DK: $4,700, FD: $6,000)
The injury to Panthers tight end Greg Olsen for the Carolina Panthers is a huge blow to the team, but also opens up a nice opportunity for Funchess, who makes for an excellent option this week in a matchup with a Falcons team who will enter Week 2 already thin in their secondary. Last season, in games that Olsen missed, Funchess saw his weekly target share rise from 6.3 tar/G to 7.8 tar/G, and averaged more than 4.0 more PPR points per game. Funchess’ price on DraftKings is incredibly appealing at $4,700, which is his lowest price point since Week 3 of last season.
WR Chris Godwin, Buccaneers vs. Eagles (DK: $4,600, FD: $6,100)
The Bucs were the surprise team of last week and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick paid off my faith in him by turning in an incredible five total touchdown performance. Godwin was a beneficiary from the Fitzmagic, and posted a solid line of three receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown while playing on just 41 percent of the teams offensive snaps. This week, Godwin is set to receive a nice bump in snaps and targets with fellow WR DeSean Jackson incredibly likely to miss the game with a concussion. The Bucs are 3-point home underdogs to the Eagles, which also bodes well for the Bucs passing game benefiting from positive game flow.
Other Wide Receiver Values: Quincy Enunwa, Paul Richardson, Mike Williams
Week 2 NFL DFS Picks: Tight end values
TE Ryan Griffin, Texans @ Titans (DK: $2,700, FD: $4,700)
Last week I was all over Griffin as a cheap tight end option in tournaments, and he came back with a solid zero in the box score. However, there were still plenty of positive takeaways for Griffin who still received five targets (three in the red zone). The matchup for this week is also excellent against the Titans, who were just lit up through the air last week against the Dolphins. You can also look to pair Griffin with QB Deshaun Watson for a contrarian Texans stack.
Other Tight End Values: Jack Doyle, George Kittle, Jesse James
Week 2 NFL DFS Picks: Defense/Special teams values
Houston Texans @ Titans (DK: $2,600, FD: $4,500)
The Texans defense looks like the stone-cold lock of the week if you want to spend down on defense on DraftKings. Houston has an excellent matchup this week with the Titans, who may be without starting QB Marcus Mariota as he is dealing with an elbow injury. If Mariota is forced to sit, the Titans will be forced to go with perennial turnover machine Blaine Gabbert, who has thrown 44 interceptions in only 49 career games. We don’t yet have a betting line in this game, but expect the Titans to have one of lowest team totals on the slate, if not the lowest, if they are forced to start Gabbert.
Other Value D/STs: Jaguars, Jets, Buccaneers
