The new Championship season is here and that can only mean one thing – predictions aplenty.
Sky Sports pundit David Prutton is back up and running with his weekly verdict on the upcoming Championship games.
There is no better place to start than the opening fixture of the season on Friday night.
Luton Town host Middlesbrough after earning promotion to the second tier, while Boro will be hoping to push for the play-offs after finishing seventh last time around.
“What an occasion this promises to be for Luton Town. From the depths of despair in non-league they have risen back to the kind of level where they should be competing, and Kenilworth Road will be rocking on Friday night,” Prutton told Sky Sports.
“Middlesbrough will always be among the favourites to win promotion from the Championship at the start of any season due to the size of the club and the quality of their squad, but it is a huge challenge for Jonathan Woodgate in his first managerial role. I fancy a draw here.” Prutton is backing the game to end 1-1.
One of the biggest matches of the opening round is the battle between promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest and West Bromwich Albion.
Prutton, for one, thinks the contest will also end up in a draw, this time 2-2 due to the attacking threat of both teams.
Barnsley are backed to shock highly-tipped promotion hopefuls Fulham 2-1, while Cardiff City are down to beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 on the road.
Another huge match is the Sunday afternoon encounter between Bristol City, who narrowly missed out on the top six last season, and Leeds United, who suffered a shock defeat to Derby County in the play-offs.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men are backed to start the 2019/20 campaign in style with a 2-1 win.
Huddersfield Town are predicted to beat Derby by the same score as they aim to begin their return to the Championship in the right manner.
