Suresh Raina’s match-fixing case having entertained a woman who had been linked to a bookie at the Hotel Kandalama during India’s visit to Sri Lanka for the 2010 Asia Cup has been raised in the Sri Lankan parliament. UNP Colombo District MP SM Marikkar questioned the Minister of Sports about Raina and the former expected an answer during the question time on a forthcoming sitting date. The accusations on Raina are that he had spent the night of June 18 with a woman who has been linked to a bookie and the duo happened to remain there throughout the night. According to www. island.lk/ow, MP Marikkar’s question has been included in the latest Addendum to the Order Book of Parliament. He wants to know if the sports minister was aware of the wrong doing by the Indian cricketer in 2010. Adding to this, a letter, complaining about Raina’s involvement in events on the night of June 18, 2010 written by Sri Lanka Cricket’s then security consultant Major General Lawrence Fernando to Ranjib Biswal, the manager of the visiting Indian cricket team had been published in Sri Lankan newspapers.

The MP also wants to get the reports regarding the investigations done by the Sri Lankan Cricket Board on this issue. He would then submit those reports to the House. If there are no reports, the MP wants the minister to reveal the names of the official who are responsible for destroying those reports. He also demanded to know that if there are no investigation reports then will the Hosue conduct any investigation regarding that.

At present, Raina is on the national duty in the ongoing ICC World T20 2016. India beat Australia by six wickets on Sunday and will face West Indies in the semi-final on Friday at Wankhede, Mumbai.
